LENT 2019 Guide | Wednesday, March 6 – Thursday, April 18
Wednesday, March 6th marked the beginning of Lent – a 40-day period leading up to Easter Sunday. In a world where the regular pace of life is marked by distraction, hurry, worry, stress and confusion, Lent is a season that invites us to focus and recalibrate. We’re often so busy and disoriented by the white noise and static of our world that we have no space to make sense of our lives, our calling and how desperately we need God’s grace and power. In this way, Lent is a blessing.
But Lent is also hard. Lent calls us to give up the usual tricks that distract and medicate us from the deepest parts of ourselves. Lent invites God to enter into those places where fear, anger, guilt, shame, pride and jealousy are still in control.
During this season we intentionally let go of our often unconscious patterns and habits in order to create space for God to enter in and take over. The purpose of Lent is prayer, self-examination, repentance, sacrifice and acts of service in preparation for Easter.
This Lent season all of NewStory Church is invited and encouraged to practice a different discipline each week in our Lent 2019 Guide. Each practice is designed to create space so we can examine who we are, who God is, and acknowledge the ways we have lost sight of God’s power and goodness in our lives. As one church family, we hope you will join in these weekly experiences together, so that together we can repent, or return to living as God intended us to live.
