Rich Gorman - September 3, 2017

Haman

Anonymous
  • Listen

Every good story needs an antagonist, a foil who stands in contrast to the main character. That is Haman in the book of Esther. Angry, impatient, egotistical are some of the best words to describe Haman. What do we do when confronted with a Haman - a person or a situation that stands in our way, serving as our atagonist? What do we do when one Haman we face is looking at us in the mirror?

Scripture: Esther 3:5

From Series: "Anonymous"

Esther is the only book in the Bible that does not have the name “God” in it. There is no mention of Elohim or Yahweh in the entire book. I guess you could say God is anonymous in Esther. But in other ways that aren't true at all. God’s handprint is seen throughout the book in many places. Isn’t life like that sometimes? What do you do when God seems anonymous? How do you trust God’s hand when you can’t hear God’s voice?

On Sunday, September 30, 2018 Dori Gorman preached about finding your soul in our Life Beyond Belief series.  Here is the “How is it with your soul?” Self-Assessment that everyone was encouraged to sit with in solitude and reflection.  This assessment is adapted from Ruth Haley Barton’s Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership (Downers Grove: IV Press, 2018), 241-244.

On Sunday, July 9, 2017 Rich Gorman preached about being a peacemaker in our Be the Change series. Here is a GUIDE that goes along with this podcast, outlining steps to take toward healthy conflict in our relationships with others.
